One of Quantum Services’ longest-serving employees, Pam Hoyt, has retired after 43 years. Pam performed audits before becoming an administrative powerhouse, doing everything from payroll to insurance.

Pam Hoyt beginning

Pam Hoyt first began working for Quantum Services in January 1981 after graduating from The Ohio State University. She was one of only 20 employees in those days who drove throughout Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky to audit our biggest client, Save Mart, which eventually became Speedway. Enjoying visiting different client sites, Pam put over 60,000 miles on her car every year, especially as Quantum Services grew into Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Reflecting on accuracy and speed during audits, Pam says they used to play a figure awareness game. This involved making a guess as to the amount of inventory in a section before counting it. Developing this skill, along with writing down actual counts, was an accountability check aiding in accuracy. Even though the process is different for today’s auditors than it was then, she believes everyone can develop an awareness of inventory and review their work.

In 1988, Ray Crook, then President of Quantum Services, offered her a role in the corporate office in Columbus, OH. She took the job in Corporate Services alongside four others, assisting employees with store schedules, payroll, healthcare enrollment, and fielding calls. In the eighties, auditors used trusty paper maps, and in the office, CSC relied on hand-to-paper techniques for signing checks and connecting to a landline to reach employees. While communications are easier and operations have advanced since then, Pam always kept the client’s and employees’ interests central to her work.

Pam Hoyt Current

In April 2024, Pam wound down her days at Quantum Services, putting aside her folders and notebooks, and hung up the phone for the last time. She looks forward to DIY projects at her house, and cooking and camping more. We wish Pam all the best as she explores this new stage in life, “counting” our stars to have had her warmth, presence, and model accuracy throughout the years!
